Ryan And Daisy Rewrite Preview by BlueEngineLiz6

Daisy the Diesel Railcar, thinks of herself as thoroughly modern and banged up to date.  And being a railcar, Daisy can carry passengers without having to pull any coaches at all. Daisy shares the branchline between Arlesburg and Harwick, with a purple N2 tank engine called Ryan. Although they both work on the same line, they are quite different. While Daisy takes all the passengers, Ryan pulls trucks and other goods. Daisy doesn’t like pulling trucks; she instead likes to do just what work she chooses, and no more.
Both have worked together throughout most of the summer, until a new tank engine was brought in to help, as there were only two engines on the small branchline. It was a saddle tank engine named Liz, who just so happens to be related to Percy, the small green engine. Like Ryan, Liz was there to help with goods work but mostly works as a shunter. Liz was a unique engine which made her and Ryan form an interesting bond, and the two remained together as best friends ever since that summer.

One early morning, Ryan was waking up, ready for work. Liz was also slowly waking but Daisy had something else in mind.

Ryan: Morning sleepyheads. Ready to go?

Liz: (yawns) As soon as I’m all steamed, but I’m up for today.

Daisy: (yawns loud and long) I don’t think so you two. Early mornings are bad for my swerves. Mmm… Just ten minutes more… (falls back asleep)

Liz: (rolls eyes) Heh. That Daisy.

Ryan: Ah never mind her. Come on, we’ve got some work to do.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Liz started her morning by heading to the shunting yard to pick up some new trucks for the branchline, while Ryan made his way to Alresburg West, where Sir Topham Hatt was waiting. He had some good news.

Sir Topham Hatt: Ryan. You, Daisy, and Liz have proved yourselves really useful. So, I want to give you three some extra duties. I’d like you Ryan, to help Toby deliver trucks from the quarry to Harwick.

Ryan: Yes sir!

Sir Topham Hatt: Liz will be in charge of the yard while you are away, so I trust her to handle the task well.

Ryan: I’m sure she will sir! I’ll let her know when I see her.

Sir Topham Hatt: Thank you Ryan. And as for Daisy… (looks around) Where is Daisy?

Ryan: Um… If you have a message sir, I can pass it on.

Sir Topham Hatt: Oh, not just a message, it’s this mail truck!

Stafford had arrived at Arlesburg West and was coupling one mail truck and break van to Ryan.

Sir Topham Hatt: (continued) Starting tomorrow, Daisy will pick up the mail from Arlesburg, before she starts her passenger run. AND, now that summer’s here, I also want Daisy to work later into the evening. Can you remember to tell her all that Ryan?

Ryan: Yes sir! No problem sir!

________________________________________________________________________________________

Later in the day, Ryan was passing through Arlesburg Harbor with the mail truck. Daisy was there too, dropping off some passengers.

Daisy: (notices Ryan with the mail truck) Oh dear Ryan! Poor you, pulling that old thing.

Ryan: Well this is your mail truck Daisy. You’re to pick up the mail from Arlesburg West first thing tomorrow, AND work later into the evening.

Daisy: But I’m a DIESEl Railcar. YOU would make a much better job at it Ryan. I can’t pull a mail truck! It’s Fitter’s orders.

Ryan: But Sir Topham Hatt said-

Daisy: (interrupts) Plus, you look great pulling the mail truck. REALLY useful. (bats her eyes)

Ryan: (smiles) Well, when you put it like that. Thanks Daisy.

And Ryan left Alresburg Harbor with the mail truck, while Daisy continued her job she liked best.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

The following morning, Ryan set off early to pick up the mail.

Liz: (hears puffing and wakes up to see a sleepy Ryan puff away with a mail truck) Huh? (yawns and falls back asleep)

_________________________________________________________________________________________

But all the extra duties made Ryan late to meet Toby at the Ffarqhuar Quarry.

Ryan: (pants as he arrives) Sorry I’m late.

Toby: That’s alright Ryan. Don’t worry. But try to be on time tomorrow.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Later that afternoon, back on the Harwick branchline, Ryan saw Daisy.

Ryan: Where are you going?

Daisy: (acting tired) Back to the shed. I’m exhausted…

Ryan: But you’re suppose to work late.

Daisy: Oh Ryan, would you do that? Please? (bats her eyes) All this extra work is bad for my swerves.

Ryan: But, you’re a diesel railcar. I’m just a tank engine.

Unbeknownst to Ryan or Daisy, Liz was also in the yard. She was arranging another goods train for her dear friend Ryan, when she heard voices.

Liz: Hmm. What’s going on? (Slowly starts puffing to where she heard the voices)

Daisy: You can take those coaches. You would be doing me a huge favor. (bats her eyes) AND you’d be really useful. (winks)

Ryan: You’re right!

As Ryan and Daisy set off to do their jobs, they didn’t notice Liz hiding behind the shed. She had seen everything.

Liz: (watches Daisy go off) Grrr….

________________________________________________________________________________________

At Harwick Station, Sir Topham Hatt was surprised to see Ryan pulling passenger coaches.

Sir Topham Hatt: Ryan? What are you doing here?

Ryan: Just helping out sir.

Sir Topham Hatt: I see. I wonder why Liz couldn’t help take this train.

Ryan: Oh well I could have told her sir, but I didn’t see her.

Sir Topham Hatt: Huh. Oh well. But you Ryan, are making yourself really useful. But even so, I was rather hoping to see Daisy. She has been doing such a good job with her passengers, that I want to extend her run to Knapford.

Ryan: I could tell her that for you sir.

Sir Topham Hatt: Thank you Ryan. I’d tell her myself but… (holds up his ice cream cone as he sits in a lounge chair) As you can see, I’m a very busy man. (starts licking his ice cream but the top flavor falls off) No!!!

________________________________________________________________________________________

That night, when Ryan returned to the shed, Daisy and Liz were already asleep. Ryan was really tired after a long day of extra jobs that he bumped into the shed buffers a little too quickly.

Ryan: Oh! Huh… (yawns and falls asleep)

_________________________________________________________________________________________

The next morning, Daisy was still asleep as Ryan was set to collect the mail. Ryan didn’t want to wake Daisy, for he knew early mornings were bad for her swerves.

Ryan: (yawns as he backs down on the passenger train) (to workmen) Morning everyone. (workman couples coaches behind Ryan)

But now Ryan had a lot to do. As well as his own work and extra duties, he also had to do all of Daisy’s extra jobs.

Ryan: (puffs in front of a mail truck and yawns again) (to workmen) Go ahead. Couple me up… (workman couples the truck in front of him)

Liz: (hears the noise and slowly wakes up) Mmmm huh? (gasps as she sees Ryan go by looking very tired)

As Ryan was leaving the yard, Liz couldn’t help but worry for her friend. Ryan looked so tired.

Liz: Oh…

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Sir Topham Hatt: (sips coffee/tea while sitting in Winston, at Arlsburg Harbor) Ah…

With the passenger coaches behind him and Daisy’s Mail Truck in front, Ryan couldn’t see where he was going.

Sir Topham Hatt: (sees Ryan go by with the coaches AND truck) Pffftt!! (spits coffee on Winston’s windshield)

Winston: (disgusted) Oh sir…

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Ryan speeds through Arlesburg West and nearly collides into Duck. Luckily Duck breaked just in time.

Duck: (angry) Look out!

Ryan: (calls) Sorry!

_________________________________________________________________________________________

After Ryan had delivered the mail, he saw a clock and realized he was late to meet Toby again.

Ryan: Oh dear!

He hurried to the Quarry as quickly as he could, and he took all his passengers with him.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

When Ryan arrived at the Quarry, Toby was not happy. Even the passengers grew cross as they tried to leave the coaches.

Workman: Whoa! Hold on there! You can’t disembark here! You need hard hats!

Poor Ryan felt very silly indeed.

__________________________________________________________________________________________

By the time Ryan returned to the shunting yard near Knapford, he was exhausted he could hardly make a puff. Liz was in the yard too and she was surprised to see Ryan looking so tired.

Ryan: (pants) Just.. have.. to.. take Daisy’s train. And then…

Liz: Ryan! Are you ok? Do you need some help?

Ryan: Ah Liz. I was just… uh… taking a rest before I do Daisy’s extra duties.

Liz: (looks away) Humph.

Ryan: What’s wrong?

Liz: (sarcastic) Oh nothing.

Ryan: Are you sure? You don’t look like it.

Liz: Don’t play dumb with me Ryan. I know what you’re doing.

Ryan: Huh? Wha- I- uh-

Liz: You’re doing Daisy’s duties and extra work just because she’s got that “good charm” and “sassy attitude”.

Ryan: What are you saying?

Liz: I’m saying that you got a thing with Daisy. I saw you two talking the other day and saw her batting her eyes at you and saying how “really useful” you are. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with her on that. But I just don’t like the way she talks to you like that.

Ryan: Huh? I’m not- (suddenly realizes) OH! (cheeky smile) You know Liz, it sounds like you’re dealing with a new emotion you don’t understand well: Jealousy.

Liz: (blushes bright) J-j- I… wha?!

Ryan:  (giggles)

Liz: I’m not jealous! … Am I?

Ryan: Liz, Daisy and I are just friends so you mustn’t worry about that too much. Second, the reason Daisy was telling me those things was because she wanted me to do her jobs and extra duties. (sigh) It was more work than I thought but I wanted to help her, as a friend.

Liz: (changes mood) But I can help Ryan. Why didn’t you ask me?

Ryan: Well you were sleeping or somewhere else. But I should have asked you sooner. I promise, the next time Daisy offers me an extra job, I’ll look to you for help.

Liz: Thanks Ryan and I’m so sorry about my erm… jealous behavior… Say, is Daisy supposed to take a passenger train to Knapford? I heard from the other engines that there were some complaints from the passengers.

Ryan: What? Oh no! I completely forgot to tell her! Oh I wish I could do something to fix this… but I (yawns)

Liz: (giggles) Sounds like you’ve overworked yourself today Ryan. How about I help you back to the shed? I’m finished with my last job for the day anyway.

Ryan: But I have to do Daisy’s passenger train this evening.

Liz: I think you need some rest. How about I help take the passenger train?

Ryan: (smiles as Liz couples up in front of Ryan, face to face) Thanks Liz. That would really help. It would also make you really useful.

The two laugh as Liz started pushing Ryan back to the Harwick sheds.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

When Sir Topham Hatt heard the news from the passengers at Knapford, he was not very happy with-

Sir Topham Hatt: Daisy! You didn’t do the run down to Knapford like I asked you to!

Daisy: Oh! I didn’t know anything about that sir!

Sir Topham Hatt: I saw Ryan pulling passenger coaches yesterday and with your mail truck this morning. (Liz and Ryan had just arrived back at the yard and Liz pushed Ryan into the shed for him to rest) He seems to be doing all your extra jobs!

Daisy: Ryan offered to help. He wanted to be really useful.

Liz: (rolled her eyes) Let’s not forget Daisy that I’m also a part of this branch line. You could have asked me to help, instead of putting pressure on Ryan. (under her breath) And also batting those eyes at him and- (stopped as Ryan gave her a stare)

Sir Topham Hatt: Ryan, Daisy, and Liz. You three were given this branch line to work on together. He should be helping each other. It’s good to help a friend Ryan, but your friends should help you too.

Daisy: Sorry Ryan. I’ve not been a very good friend.

Liz: No you haven’t! (blushes red as Ryan stares at her again, even Sir Topham Hatt)

Ryan: (whispers while still angry) Jealousy…

Sir Topham Hatt: Now Daisy, since you don’t like pulling the mail train, you can do something else. Tomorrow, you can have all of Ryan’s extra duties.

Daisy: But- what about my springs?! And my swerves?!

Sir Topham Hatt: (stares hard) Hmm….

Daisy: (changes mood) Ok sir… I can do that, for a friend.

Liz: (about to make a face again but then quickly changes it)

Sir Topham Hatt: Now Liz, I understand you care about Ryan as a very good friend, but I don’t want that attitude you’ve had recently against Daisy.

Liz: I’m sorry sir… I guess my emotions got to the better of me. I promise to be a better friend to Daisy.

Sir Topham Hatt: That’s good to hear. Also Liz, to make things fair for all three of you, I’ll let you take the mail truck.

Liz: Oh thank you sir! That’ll give me a chance to see my brother Percy at Knapford!

________________________________________________________________________________________

The next morning, Daisy was ready to go take care of Ryan’s extra duties. Ryan was still in his birth, half asleep and Liz was about to be coupled to the mail truck, freshly awake.

Daisy: (yawns) (talks sleepily) Right then. Off I go to collect YOUR trucks.

Ryan: (opens an eye) Ok. Thanks Daisy.

Daisy: And then… (shudders) to the quarry…

Ryan: Have a good day then. You’re a good friend Daisy.

Daisy: (as she leaves the shed and passes Liz) I know I am Ryan. And so are you.

Liz: (slightly smiles as she watches Daisy pass. then looks at Ryan, still sleeping) See you later Ryan.

Ryan: (opens an eye) I’ll be here at the yard when you get back.

Liz: (smiles, toots her whistle and leaves the yard with the mail truck)

Ryan: (smiles and then falls back asleep)
