It was yet another sunny day on the island of Sodor. Everything seemed normal with birds chirping and flowers blooming and-

Donald and Douglas: (in distance) HELP!!!

What? What is happening?!

Donald and Douglas: HEEEELLLLLPPP!!!!!

Oh no! It seems Donald and Douglas, the Scottish twins, are in trouble with their trains!

Troublesome Boys: (hidden in the cargo of their trucks) On! On! On! Yeah! Faster! This is fun!!

During the past few weeks, several trains ended up in serious crashes, that the engines had to be taken to the steamworks to be repaired. Not only were the trains damaged, but their crews were injured. The following employees of Sodor: Ryan, Percy, Henry Stainer, Emily, Bill and Ben, and Gordon (along with their assisted fireman/woman) were escorted to the Sodor Hospital to recover and get medical help from Victor and his assistant Kevin. This has let work on Sodor slow down as both steam and diesel engines work their hardest to keep the trains running on time.

The guards of Donald and Douglas’ trains were about to use the breaks of their brakevans when one of the troublesome boys, a man at that, had other plans.

Scruffy: (notices the guards) Oh no you don’t! (turns to a teenager in the truck next to him) Ready Rickety?

Rickety: Ready!

The two each picked up a shunter’s pole that was hidden in the cargo of their truck. They reached over and removed the chain that connected their trucks to the other truck in front. When they did, both Scruffy and Rickety’s trucks were uncoupled and the Caledonian engines continued without their brakevans!

Douglas: (picks up his radio) Guards? urr ye thare? what’s gaun oan!? we cuid uise some hulp!

But their signal was so far away that they couldn’t communicate with their guards, who were left far behind.

Donald: (looks behind from his cab) Oh no! Douggie, we lost oor brakevans!!

Douglas: We’re doomed!!!

The twins frantically tried to stop their trains but it was no use as the troublesome boys continued their trick of pushing each other’s truck by using a thick pole.

Up high on a hill, in front of a collapsed bridge, two engine drivers surveyed the scene of the two runaway trains. They were Scott Gresley, the owner of the Flying Scotsman, and Yong Bao from China.

Days ago, the Fat Controller had called Scott to help with the work while Gordon was at the hospital. This gave Scott the chance to look into the situation and figure out what’s been happening with the strange incidents. Scott also invited his friend Yong Bao to help with the case; but it seemed the 24 year old man was quite enthusiastic at times, as Yong Bao carried a package of fireworks with him in his jacket pockets, and he performed impossible stunts with his Chinese tender engine.

Today Scott and Yong Bao were looking into the case even further, as they finally figured out the problem.

Scott: (points at the troublesome boys) See that Yong Bao! I TOLD you those boys on this island have been acting out!

Yong Bao: They need help! Let’s go! (hops into his engine’s cab)

Scott: (turns to face him) W-w-wait! Shouldn’t we make a plan first?

Yong Bao: (backs his engine very far) No time for that!

Scott: What do you mean no time for that? And where are you going?!

His question was soon answered, as the Chinese engine charged at the collapsed bridge. Scott gasped as he witnessed Yong Bao’s engine take a rather impossible flight across the cavern, making it to the other side.

Yong Bao: (calls) I’m taking a short cut!

Scott: (wide eyed) Um… I think I’ll take the long way round…

Meanwhile, Donald and Douglas were still in trouble with their uncontrollable trains. But just then Yong Bao’s engine arrived at the scene. He blew his engine's loud long whistle which startled the twins. They looked at the engine beside Douglas in awe.

Douglas: (calls from cab) Who are you?!

Yong Bao: (calls) Yong Bao of China! I am here to help!

There was another whistle from behind as the Flying Scotsman was trying to catch up.

Yong Bao: (through radio to Scott) Hurry up Scott! This is an emergency!

Scott: (radio) I AM hurrying!

As the Flying Scotsman was coming up beside Donald’s train, Yong Bao seized a shunter’s pole that was inside his cab. He let his fireman take control as Yong Bao bravely reached out and uncoupled Douglas's engine from his train of trucks. Scott followed Yong Bao’s lead as he did the same to Donald’s train. Soon all four were approaching a harbor.

Douglas: Now what?

Yong Bao: Speed up!

Up ahead, the twins could see that the tracks ended at the sea where there were no buffers! Donald was first hesitant but when Yong Bao called again to speed up, the twins surged their engines to go faster. The troublesome boys in the trucks were first confused to what was happening, as their line of trucks were rolling at a moderate pace without the engines.

Yong Bao: (calls to workmen) Points!

Two quick workmen switched the points for Donald and Douglas to divert on two different tracks. Then they switched the points again so the lines of trucks could continue on the same tracks they were on. The Scottish Twins braked their engines and watched as the trucks continued rolling to the end of the harbor. The Troublesome boys quickly saw the danger ahead! Some jumped out of their trucks onto dry land, while one or two jumped into the water, just as the trucks splashed into the sea. Luckily none of the Troublesome Boys drowned but the trucks sank to the bottom. Donald and Douglas were relieved and thanked their rescuers.

Donald: Whew, if ye didn’t hulp us, we wouda baith drowned!

Yong Bao: Not a problem! Take care with those trucks next time.

Scott: (narrows eyes at the wreckage) I agree. Those naughty boys in those trucks are causing mischief around this island…

At Knapford Station, the Fat Controller had called Angus to have a word with him.

Angus Windsor is the owner of his tannish warship diesel engine, titled Diesel 10. Angus had a rough past that made him terrorize most of the people on Sodor. But days ago, a little boy by the name of Philip, had changed Angus’ cold heart to a more friendly person. Very recently, Angus had prevented a nasty crash that had saved the Sodor Hospital with everyone safe inside. Angus was considered a hero that day, but the Fat Controller didn’t believe so.

Fat Controller: (to Angus) I received news from some of my workers, saying that you were trying to knock Thomas’ engine off the tracks.

Angus: What? No! Thomas’ train was a runaway. I was trying to stop his train for it was the only way to save the Sodor Hospital.

Fat Controller: You?! Save the Hospital? I find that hard to believe.

Angus: It’s true! You could even ask some of the witnesses at the Hospital. They'll tell you!

Fat Controller: (firm) I will! And for your sake I hope they back up your story. Now get back to the waste dump.

Angus: Yes sir…

He climbed into his warship diesel and drove away. Just then, another Diesel engine stopped by the platform. It was a black shunting Diesel and it belonged to Devious Denzel.

Fat Controller: Ah! Now here’s someone I can rely on!

Denzel: (steps out of cab) Good day sir. What can I do for you?

Fat Controller: Well I know it’s a lot to ask, but I have to leave the island for urgent business. Now as you know, the railway is not in the best shape at the moment, so I need to leave someone in charge who I can trust to keep the trains running on time. Can you do that for me Denzel?

Denzel: Oh yes sir, it would be an honor sir!

Fat Controller: Excellent! I knew I could count on you Denzel.

Denzel: Of course sir. When are you leaving?

Fat Controller: (makes his way to his blue car in the parking lot) Right now actually! Good luck! (drives away)

As Denzel watched his controller leave, a devious grin spread across his face and he couldn’t help but cackle to himself.

Later that night, everything seemed peaceful on the island. But in a shunting yard that was close to the smelting shed, stood three empty trucks. One was blue with a white stripe. Another was orange and was labeled Fred. The one in the middle looked brand new and was labeled S.C.R.U.F.F.Y. Off to the side of the trucks were three shabby like tents. Inside, were the three owners of these three trucks whose names were Rickety, Fred, and Scruffy. Rickety and Fred were sleeping soundly but Scruffy tossed and turned in his sleep, for he was having a dream.

It was eight years ago and Scruffy’s truck looked old and worn with rotting wood and rusty frames. An engine coupled up in front of Scruffy’s truck and then started to pull. Being the troublesome guy he is, Scruffy held his truck back with his shunting pole, so the engine couldn’t move it forwards. However, the engine’s strength was stronger than most of the engines Scruffy faced and it made Scruffy worried as he noticed his truck was creaking. Cracks started to form, so Scruffy jumped out of his truck as he shouted “It’s coming apart!” Scruffy gasped as he saw his one and only owned truck break apart in two. Scruffy seethed with fury as he spotted the engine driver being praised by his friends. The driver’s name was Oliver and he had destroyed Scruffy’s truck. Days later it was restored but now Scruffy was humiliated and the truck owner vowed to have revenge on the Little Western Driver.

Fred: (interrupts Scruffy’s dream) Scruffy wake up!

The African American teenager had shaken Scruffy awake, for just outside their tents were three visitors. They were Denzel, Arry and Bert. The three diesel drivers had sneaked to the yard, to have a word with the most troublesome men on Sodor.

Denzel: Good evening you three.

Scruffy: (comes out of tent with Fred and stands next to Rickety) Unless you’ve come to tell me you got Oliver for me, you better BACK right up now! We three are sick of doing your dirty work without having some kind of reward.

Fred: Yeah!

Rickety: What he said!

Denzel: Calm down my raspy friend. You’ll be reunited with your old “friend” Oliver very shortly. But for now, the time has come to execute the final stage of my plan!

A little ways in the same yard, Scott and Yong Bao were spying behind large crates. They had left their engines far behind and had walked on foot to examine Denzel’s meeting.

Scott: (whispers to Yong Bao) I knew it! Not only are those troublesome boys a part of this plan, but Denzel is the mastermind of it all!

Yong Bao: (whispers) Quickly! Let’s do something and end this!

The young Chinese man was about to stand up and take action, but Scott pulled him back.

Scott: (whispers) No no no! It’s too risky Yong Bao. Listen, we NEED a plan this time.

The two remained quiet and continued listening to the conversation.

Denzel: I’m going to need two of you for one last attempt at getting rid of that meddlesome teenager Thomas! (turns to Scruffy) And if we’re lucky, we’ll get Oliver too.

Scruffy: (grins) In that case, I’m in! (turns to Fred) Fred, you’d be great at this job.

Fred: Alright then. Say ya, Rickety.

Fred and Scruffy climbed into their empty trucks, just as Denzel and Arry’s engines coupled up to them. Then the party left the yard with Rickety left behind. The ragged teenager looked around the yard and noticed how everything looked a little spooky, being left alone. Just then there was a small clatter which startled the boy.

Rickety: W-who’s there? (picks up a rough looking stick) I’m warning ya! I’m armed!

Rickety looked around the yard again but he didn’t see anyone. Suddenly someone from behind, gagged him with a cloth and then something clonked Rickety's noggin, till everything was black.

When Rickety woke up he was blinded with light. He struggled but realized he was tied to a chair, under a thick coil of rope. Coming into the light were two men Rickety didn’t recognize, but he could tell they were steam engine drivers. Rickety was told by Scruffy to not spill the beans about Denzel’s plan, so Rickety had to keep his mouth shut.

Scott: (crosses his arms) Now son, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. We want to know what your friends Denzel and Scruffy are planning. If you do, we’ll let you go.

Rickety: Ha! I’ll never talk! You won’t get anything out of me!

Scott turned to Yong Bao and nodded. The Chinese man reached into his jacket and pulled out a thin firecracker and a lighter. He grinned as he started walking towards Rickety, threatening to light the wick of the firecracker.

Rickety: (panics) Ok! Ok! I’ll talk! I’ll talk! Please don’t blow me up!

Yong Bao lowers his weapon, as Scott comes close to the teen’s face.

Scott: TELL. US. EVERYTHING.

Rickety: (gulps)

By the next morning, Rickety had explained everything. He even sobbed some of his own private secrets till he hiccuped. When Scott and Yong Bao were done with him, they dragged the teen to a lifeboat by the nearest harbor and cast Rickety out to sea.

Scott: (waves) “Bon Voyage”!

Yong Bao: You think we did the right thing? I am a hero of China after all.

Scott: (sigh) Stop considering yourself a savior Yong Bao. It was just one train you saved. And yes, the boy deserved it. But don’t worry; by the time this is all over, we’ll send someone to rescue him.

Yong Bao: Now what Scott?

Scott: Now we assemble Sodor’s Finest...

To be continued...
