Back at the Waste Dump, Angus, Philip, and Paxton had returned from Knapford Harbor in defeat, for they had lost their chance at saving the coal. Shortly after their arrival, Whiff Worsdell, the steam engine owner of his dark green LNER X1 engine, approached the group.

Whiff: (pushes glasses into place) I just got a call from our managing office. It’s Scott calling from the mainland. Apparently, he says he was tricked into crossing the Vicarstown Bridge and is trapped on the other side, thanks to Denzel for raising the bridge and destroying the controls.

Paxton: Oh dear!

Angus: How come we didn’t hear about this sooner?

Whiff: Scott had abandoned his engine when crossing the bridge, which is why he called in so late. He had to walk at least 5 miles till he reached the nearest town. He says he is getting help from the mainland but the bridge controls are still broken.

Philip: What are we gonna do?!

Angus: Whiff, get Butch on the phone for me!

Half an hour later, Angus made a call to the Sodor Search and Rescue Center. Butch was the truck driver and mechanic of the facility, so when he answered Angus’ call, he drove to the Vicarstown Bridge right away. Inside the control tower, Butch found the bounded and gagged control man and untied him. He then surveyed the damage on the controls and realize it would take days to fix, as they were severely damaged by a sledge hammer. Butch called the waste dump managing office again, and Angus answered.

Angus: Well, what’s the deal? Can you get it fixed on time?

Butch: I’m sorry Angus but there’s nothing I can do to speed up the repairs. This will take a long time to get the bridge running again. Just how did this happen?

Angus: It was Denzel’s doing. You keep an eye out for him while you fix the controls. We’ll check back later.

Butch: Gotcha. And good luck on stopping him. By the look on the damage here, only a mad man could do this…

After Angus hung up, he left the managing office and made his way back to Philip and Paxton.

Angus: That silly Scott. To think he was suppose to be our leader. But he got outsmarted by Denzel.

Paxton: But didn’t Denzel outsmart us too?

No one replied, for just then, a chorus of whistles were heard as Yong Bao, Thomas' engines, and Toad’s brakevan returned to the dump. Oliver’s fireman was onboard Thomas’ engine, for he had left the great western engine back at the entrance of the mine, as he didn’t know how to drive it so well.

Angus: (to Paxton and Philip) Well I hope they were more successful than us. (to Thomas and Yong Bao as they climb out of their engine cabs) Where’s Oliver?

Thomas: That’s why we came back! You three have to come with us right away. The mine we investigated was filled with dynamite and Oliver got trapped inside.

Philip: Oh no! Poor Oliver…

Thomas: (looks round the yard) Where’s Scott?

Angus: Denzel tricked him. The Vicarstown bridge is broken and Scott is trapped on the mainland without his engine. We assume Denzel must have stolen it.

Yong Bao: Typical! I should have been the one to handle the bridge.

Dylan (Oliver’s fireman): Well as long as Scott’s not in any real danger, I suggest we rescue Oliver first. He could be suffocating in there!

Angus: I agree.

Thomas: Then let’s go!

And they all quickly left the waste dump, raced across the island, and back to the coal mine. But when they arrived, they didn’t see Oliver’s engine sitting on a siding by the entrance. The blocked entrance was also cleared as if someone had beaten the group.

Dylan: You don’t suppose-?

Angus: Denzel… Looks like he beat us to Oliver first.

Noah: That devious Denzel! (to Thomas) He can’t keep getting away with this!

Philip: But… why would Denzel take Oliver?

Thomas: I don’t know…

Yong Bao: (suddenly realizes) Oh… Did Scott not mention that Oliver is a part of Denzel’s plan?

Toad: (worried) W-what do you mean?

Yong Bao: I remember Denzel making a deal with some truck owner to get back at Oliver. Or something like that…

Thomas: A truck owner…?

Dylan: (realizes) Toad… you don’t think-?

Toad: Scruffy!!

Oliver groaned. The last thing he remembered was an avalanche of rock tumbling down on him and how one of them hit his head and knocked him out. He tried moving but he couldn’t. He tried to speak but his couldn't open his mouth. Oliver opened his eyes and cried out in a muffle. He was tied up in a thick coil of rope from his thighs to his chest, and he was hanging from the hook of a tall crane. His mouth was duct taped so even if he tried to cry out “Help”, no one would hear him. Down below, he was surrounded by a large crowd of troublesome boys of every age and race, wearing the same stripped grey shirt and pants. Oliver could see he was in a yard, hidden from the rest of Sodor, where only the troublesome boys could hide. But now Oliver realized that he may not see the light of day again as beneath him was a large tub of what looked like a sticky grey substance.

???: Welcome home Ollie!

Oliver could see a man emerge from the crowd of troublesome boys, that he instantly recognized. He had few grey hairs on his head and a single tooth shown out of his grinning mouth.

Oliver: (muffled) Scruffy!

Scruffy: Make yourself “comfortable” in your new home Ollie. Heh heh heh. Soon in a few minutes, you’ll be lowered into that vat of wet cement, it will dry and you’ll be stuck there forever. Oh, and as for your precious engine (points off to the side) well I think my boys and I would be more than happy to take it apart piece by piece as it was meant to be, before you came to Sodor!

Oliver could see his engine off on a siding, where three troublesome boys were standing on guard, wearing welder masks, gloves, and each holding a flame torcher. Oliver cried out in a muffled scream and tried struggling, but the tight rope was hard to resist.

Scruffy: (mocking) Oh I’m sorry. Did you say something? (turns to the troublesome boys) Many of you doubted me as your leader after my accident with my truck, and all of you were scared of this man and his “strong” engine. But those days are OVER! (turns to face Oliver) This is what happens to people who mess with Scruffy!

The troublesome boys cheered and fist pumped the air. Approaching the party were a small group of diesel drivers: Denzel, Dart, and Arry.

Denzel: (grins) Hope I didn’t miss the celebration. My boys and I had some last-minute business to attend to.

Scruffy: What else do you want Denzel?! I was just about to extract my revenge!

Denzel: Calm yourself my friend. Everything has fallen into place. You see those three trucks there? (points to three green trucks filled with a black rocky source) That's the last coal left of Sodor. The remaining steam engines would be out of puff very shortly and with that, diesel engines would be able to take over the entire railway! (cackles)

Thomas: (in distance) NOT SO FAST!

Denzel and Scruffy: HUH?!

The party was interrupted as a group of rebel engines arrived at the hidden yard. Stepping out of the engines’ cabs were Thomas, Yong Bao, Angus, Philip, Paxton, and Toad. Noah, Dylan, and Yong Bao’s firemen all stayed inside the cabs in case anything bad were to happen to the engines.

Denzel: (growls) You lot again?! Didn’t you all learn your lesson?!

Scruffy: How did you find us?!

Paxton: Simple, we went to Fred who was held captive in a jail cell and questioned him.

Denzel: (growls) Next time I’ll see that African punk, I’ll teach him a lesson!

Toad: (steps forward) Give us back Mr. Oliver!!

Scruffy: Come and get him then!

Thomas: Very well we will!

The rebels started charging to the rescue but Scruffy already had a battle plan.

Scruffy: (to troublesome boys) ATTACK!

The crowd of troublesome boys started charging towards the rebel drivers until a big fight began. Fists and kicks were blown back and forth against rebels and troublemakers.

Three of the troublesome boys circled round Thomas and started piling on top of him, but Yong Bao quickly scared them off with some firecrackers that made loud bangs when lit.

Philip didn’t know how to fight well, but he managed to kick hard on some of the troublesome boys in the shins and groins.

Paxton and Toad battled with large sticks, as they weren’t excellent fighters either. But fighting side by side made them feel courageous as they whacked one troublesome boy and the next.

Angus was the hardest to defeat as boy after teen tried to take him down with punches or piling on top of him. But Angus’ hand claw was strong enough to push away boy after troublesome boy.

Scruffy stood in surprise, seeing that his large band of troublesome boys were being defeated by just six rebels.

Denzel: (to Dart and Arry) You two! Stop them!

Dart and Arry had no other choice but to obey their leader. So they rushed into the fight to try and capture the rebels.

In the midst of the fight, Toad spotted Oliver hanging from the hook of a crane, so the brave guard made his way through the battle and over to the crane. But Scruffy could see Toad approaching so the troublesome man pressed a button on a control box he was holding, and it started slowly lowering Oliver closer to the tub of cement.

Toad: STOP RIGHT THERE!

Scruffy faced Toad and the two men narrowed eyed each other.

Scruffy: You… You were the one who told Oliver to rip apart my truck! Because of you, I was humiliated among the others!

Toad: But I didn’t tell Mr. Oliver to tear your truck apart. It was your own fault it came apart easily, as your truck had rotten wood and rusty frames.

Scruffy: (growls and pushes a button to make Oliver be lowered a little faster) When I’m through with Oliver, you’re next!

By now, some of the troublesome boys were running away in defeat, while others still struggled in the battle.

Angus kept Philip by his side now, as one of the troublesome boys had given Philip a rough kick in the eight year old’s right leg.

Thomas had a few bruises but he continued fighting hard by delivering one punch to a troublesome boy's jaw, to a kick in a teen's back.

Paxton kept swinging his stick while sounding out a battle cry in a silly way.

Yong Bao still had his trick of fireworks to scare most of the troublesome boys, while some of the tough ones had themselves burned from the fireworks.

Denzel, who stood afar from the battle, could see his side was losing. He therefore did the only desperate thing he could think of by climbing into his Diesel Shunting engine and started firing it up in chance of escape.

Toad was a nervous man, but he had to rescue his companion Oliver. So he charged at Scruffy, waving the stick. Scruffy first dodged and Toad instead struck the metal tub. The blow started to form a crack and Toad noticed this. He didn’t realize Scruffy had sneaked up behind Toad and wrapped an arm round his neck. Toad try to pry himself from Scruffy’s grasp but the troublesome man was strong.

Thomas had a chance to look off to the side and see three trucks of coal.

Thomas: (to the others) Guys!! There are coal trucks for our- Gah! (another troublesome boy had jumped on his back and Thomas tries to push him off)

Philip noticed them and then sees Denzel’s engine started rolling towards them. The brave little boy began racing to the tracks where the trucks were, in hopes of stopping Denzel. Devious Denzel, meanwhile, had reached the closest coal truck and was coupling the front of his engine to it. Just as he was about to climb into his cab, Philip came charging and leaped onto Denzel’s back.

Denzel: GAH! Get off me you little twerp!

Philip: (starts throwing hits against Denzel’s right shoulder) YOU. CAN’T. HAVE. THESE-

Denzel threw the boy off his back, and starts running for his engine again. But Philip then grabbed Denzel’s left leg and gripped it tightly.

Denzel: (tries to squirm him off)

Philip: (still struggles) We’ll stop you and- ow!!

Denzel had had enough, for he finally punched Philip in the face, which made the eight year old lose his grip on Denzel.

Denzel: (rolls away in his engine with the trucks) Spare me your pathetic lectures! I have some unfinished business to do at the smelter’s!

Angus had heard Philip’s cry and turned in his direction. He gasped at what he just saw: Denzel punching Philip and making his escape.

Angus: Philip! GRRRRRAAAAAUGH!

Angus pushed his way through the crowd of troublesome boys, knocking each one aside from his strong claw.

Toad tried to remove Scruffy’s arm off him or try whacking him with his stick. But Scruffy grabbed hold of Toad’s stick and threw it aside. He then pulled out a dagger that was in one of his pockets which made Toad shudder.

Scruffy: (whispers in Toad’s ear) I TOLD you not to mess with me. Now you’re really gonna get it.

Toad looked from side to side in chance of help. He then eyed the large tub of cement that had the small crack and had an idea. Toad stepped on Scruffy’s foot and Scruffy dropped the dagger in pain. Toad then pried himself from Sruffy’s grasp and started pushing the troublesome man hard against the tub. With each force, the crack started to grow. Oliver’s toes were just inches from touching the cement so the Great Western Driver cried for help but there was only a muffle call. Toad finally pushed Scruffy against the tub with one final force which made the tub groan. Toad quickly moved out of the way, just as the side of the tub burst from the large crack and cement came pouring out. Scruffy didn’t realize what was happening until too late. The cement had drenched him from head to toe and Scruffy was covered in sticky grey cement. Scruffy tried to remove most of it but by the time he did so off his face and most of his top half, he stuck where he stood. The cement had glued his feet to the ground and he couldn’t move his arms or legs. He could only cry out:

Scruffy: GET ME OUT OF HERE!

By now the battle was over, the troublesome boys were either wounded or ran away and the diesel drivers gave up the fight. Toad reached the control box and brought Oliver down to safety. He was then untied and Toad embraced his friend in a hug.

Toad: So glad you’re safe Mr. Oliver.

Oliver: Safe? I’m quite surprised with you Toad! You were amazing with the stick swinging and the fighting.

Toad: Heh heh… Let’s not mention that to the others shall we?

Angus: (rushes to Philip’s who laying on the ground, wounded) Philip! (reaches him and hold his head up) My boy! Are you ok?

Philip: (coughs) I… I’m ok Angus. B-but Denzel got away with the coal trucks.

Yong Bao: We NEED that coal! I’m going after him! (makes his way to his steam engine)

Thomas: Wait for me! (starts walking to his engine but then turns to the others) Angus, can you watch over Philip and the others?

Angus: Yes of course.

Toad: (calls) You can leave my brakevan behind Mr. Thomas. It’ll only slow your engine down.

Thomas: Right! Thanks for your help Toad! (starts running back to his engine)

Philip: (weak voice) You… you should go too Angus. They might your help!

Angus: (notices Philip’s severe bruise from Denzel) And LEAVE you behind?! I don’t think so.

Paxton: (approaches who also looks slightly bruised) It’s ok Angus. I can look after Philip for you. My engine is not that fast anyway. And besides, I’ll have to call the Sodor Hospital to clean this mess up. (looks around the yard where there lay many wounded troublesome boys)

Philip: (sits up) Quick! Or else Denzel would get away!

Angus knew Philip was right. Denzel had not only caused enough damage the past few weeks but he had banished Angus from his home at the Vicarstown home, where the other diesel drivers worked. Angus stood up and made his way back to his warship diesel engine. He wasted no time with following Thomas’ E2 engine and Yong Bao’s Chinese RM engine to stop Denzel once and for all.

To be concluded...
5/18/18: Edited some details and grammar errors.

This one was certainly epic and yet fun to write, especially during the fight scenes. One last chapter to go!
